Merry Christmas!

I have the best memories of Christmas growing up, my sister and I would stay up late together and have sleepovers as kids (and stay up late making drinks into our twenties!). We would get up so early… even as teenagers we were up at 5am.

I have to say, there is no lack of excitement now that I’m a parent. I was the last one to sleep Christmas Eve and the first one up the next morning! When we were little my Mom embroidered our stockings with our name and Christmas scenes. I still have mine and it is one of my most cherished sentimental possessions. I started one for Liv a few months ago (J too, but his still needs work!) and finished just in the nick of time. I used Urban Threads Woodland Wonderland design pack for the base of the stocking and then freehand stitched her name. FYI- if you’ve never been to Urban Threads, they are one of my go-to sites for all things embroidery. I was *this* close to doing zombie Santa. Just saying.

I love embroidery but haven’t shared much yet. I am really stoked with how this turned out, and may be offering some small wall-hangings in the future 😉 Anyway, check it out!

Here are the stockings together, I’ll probably add some lace or piping to Olivia’s as well.

Now onto 2013. I have a feeling that this will be a good year in many ways, but I suspect lots of good creative happenings! Happy Holidays!

Craft Show Circuit – I’ve found my people!

These past two weeks have been a whirlwind it seems. I got to participate in my very first craft show – Crafts in the Stacks – which was put on by the amazing gals of Neighborhood Handmade. So awesome. This is what’s been missing from my sewing venture. I met some amazing artisans from the area and made some great connections. In fact, Sheri (part of the Neighborhood Handmade team) is opening a handmade and vintage store in February which will offer areas for local crafters and artisans to sell their goodies. I can’t wait to be a part of it, the store is Downtown Handmade & Vintage and located in an area that seems to be soaking up the local and handmade movement. setup2_resizesmall

We’re doing one more trunk show before Christmas, so if you’re local stop by and see me on December 21st from 5-8pm. I understand that Forage Market (located just below and amazing!) will be making wood-fired pizza and there will be wine and cheese offered… seriously you shouldn’t need more convincing! Last minute Christmas gifts, downtown just before Christmas, wine, and yours truly! 160 Lisbon Street, 2nd Floor, Lewiston. Come!

setup_resizesmallBack to the first craft show – I was a bundle of nerves but the room got busy right as we opened so I was able to settle in quickly. I sold quite a bit but more importantly, I gained some insight on what people are attracted to, what I was missing (size tags, NEED!), and what I was doing that people seemed to love. My newest design – exposed waistband twirl skirts – were a big hit, I ended up completely selling out of my larger sizes and taking orders for skirts when a size wasn’t available. A number of women told me they would have loved a ladies size in the skirts, so I’ll be offering 3″ elastic band skirts in ladies S/M/L! I got loads of compliments on my fabric selection, so at least I can justify my fabric addiction. I’ll also be throwing a few aprons into the mix for the trunk show on the 21st, since I didn’t have any ready for Crafts in the Stacks. So I’ve got a few things on my to-do list, though I’m feeling much less stress after having a few shows under my belt (it’s like an old hat really).

As if all this weren’t enough going on (did I mention my husband’s final is in 4 days? And then he’s on to his final semester!), check out this little addition: tate_12wks_resize

He is just about the sweetest guy ever, an adorable 12-week old chocolate lab named Tate. He and Gordon are destined to be partners in crime (how I ended up with two snoring dogs who eat acorns…). Even though Gordon enjoys the naptime a bit more than the playtime, he has been an exceptional “big brother” to Tate, dealing with the puppy bites (Tate tends to go for the nub!) and allowing Tate to move in without being territorial. Liv is also somewhat unsure about playtime with the puppy, she seems to think it’s hilarious from a spot where she can’t get in the middle of it! However she’s all about the puppy curling up on the couch with her, she kisses his paws and tells him he is, “just like a princess”. J and I are totally in love, and I think Tate has even given J a better appreciation for Gordon!

Although there were a few crummy  things that happened last week, the good things so outweigh the negative I won’t even take the time to write about them. J & Liv are snuggled up in bed, the dogs are curled up with me, the pellet stove is roaring, and I’m on my second cup of coffee. Doesn’t get much better than that 😉

So Here It Is!

My entry for EtsyMom Team’s Color Palatte Challenge!

I’m super pleased with how it turned out. You can find my listing for it here or browse the rest of my listings in my shop.

I spent an hour yesterday stitching pockets for my next set of dresses, inspired by a new one I’m working on for Liv. I’ll not only be listing them in my shop but I’m participating in a craft show at the end of November. Local friends come check it out at the Lewiston Public Library, I’ll be posting more information about it in the next few days!

Today I’m snuggling a sick kid (fever was 103.8 last night, poor babe) so I probably won’t get much sewing done, maybe a little fabric cutting. Time to brew another pot of coffee (with Salted Caramel Mocha creamer, it’s the business) and get this girl some chicken soup.

Liv’s Birthday!

So I’ve taken it upon myself to get creative for Liv’s birthday this year! I’ve been making fabric birthday banners and chosen a mermaid/under-the-sea theme… mostly so there is a color palate! I haven’t finished anything yet, but here’s a start!
